Beware of Hackers using ChatGPT to create Highly Effective Hacking Tools

Cybercriminals are abusing an AI chatbot named as ChatGPT built by an artificial intelligence deployment company as part of a new technique they have been testing with.

Since the ChatGPT application was released towards the end of November 2022, it has swiftly gained popularity among users, thus it is only natural that scammers are seeking for ways to exploit it.

ChatGPT can be used for a variety of purposes, such as:-

  • Answering inquiries

  • Making reports

  • Even developing software code

Recently, the NYC Education Department prohibited the use of ChatGPT on school and network devices.

Hackers Using ChatGPT to Create Hacking Tools

Cybercriminals appear to be exploiting it at the moment. According to Research, cybercriminals employed ChatGPT three times.

Researchers discovered that threat actors are directing fraud activities in underground hacking forums and facilitating the construction of harmful tools such as:

  • Infostealers

  • Encryption tools

Apart from that, the three incidents discovered by security specialists include:

Case 1: Developing an Infostealer

Case 2: Developing an encryption tool

Case 3: Facilitating ChatGPT for Fraud Activity

In addition to advanced hacking tools, hackers employ ChatGPT to develop chatbots that are primarily designed to mimic young girls in order to entice victims to their websites.

Threat actors are imitating girls and posing as girls to acquire trust and conduct long interactions with their targets.

ChatGPT is also capable of writing malicious software that observes a user's keyboard strokes and can infect the users' devices with ransomware.

A cybercriminal with little to no development skills might use ChatGPT AI to construct malicious tools and become an expert cybercriminal with sufficient skills to perform cybercrime at an advanced level.

Recently, a threat actor demonstrated how to use ChatGPT to write scripts for creating Dark Web marketplaces. The marketplace is important in the underground illicit economy because it serves as a platform for the automated trading of illegal or stolen products.

Threat actors primarily trade the following items on dark web marketplaces:

  • Stolen accounts or payment cards

  • Malware

  • Drugs

  • Ammunition

As a result, ChatGPT may give hackers with a handy starting place from which to begin their process of learning how to hack computer systems and devices; in essence, this will undoubtedly accelerate the unlawful hacking process for hackers.
